In the cannabis plant, more than 100 cannabinoids have been identified, that is to say, chemical compounds that are naturally found in this plant. One of the most abundant is the cannabidiol ( CBD Oil ), which can represent up to 45% of the plant's extract. Many of the strains of Cannabis Sativa give place to the CBD or cannabidiol but they do it in small quantities. In fact, only certain branches of the plant contain sufficient concentration of CBD to extract it in a useful way. The CBD was isolated from the cannabis plant was between 1930 and 1940 by researchers at the University of Illinois (USA). However, it was not until the decade of the 60 when Professor Rafael Mechoulam managed to describe his structure and chemical composition. Since 2013, PubMed, a U.S. database of medical research, has indexed more than 1,500 studies on cannabidiol. In this sense, many scientists consider the CBD to be one of the most important cannabinoids discovered to date.
Medicinal effects of CANNABIDIOL
Compared with the rest of cannabinoids, the cannabidiol has gained much importance in the therapeutic field because it lacks psicoativas properties typical of THC (not acting through the receptors CB1 brain responsible for the psychoactivity), and that is They reduce when using CBD and THC as a whole.
In this way, similar amounts of CBD and THC can be administered (ratio 1:1 or even greater than THC) without strong adverse effects due to high amounts of THC
(such as the psychoactive effect, tachycardia, anxiety attacks, among others). Although much remains to be investigated on the properties of cannabidiol, there are several studies that have demonstrated their benefits from a clinical point of view.
IIts most important therapeutic effects are given by its properties:
- Antibacterial and antifungal
- Sleep inducers
Although all the benefits of cannabidiol are not fully known, there are researches that have demonstrated their benefits from a clinical point of view. For example, experts have revealed their relationship with the immune system. Thus, it has been proven that, in some cell lines of the immune system, the CBD has the ability to inhibit the production of some cytokines. These checks directly relate the CBD with beneficial effects on inflammatory/autoimmune diseases. Thus, the CBD has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anxiolytic and antipsychotic properties. There are also studies that have related cannabidiol to a relief of chronic pain or to treat epilepsy, among other illnesses.
Other research has focused on the effects of cannabidiol on arthritis. Thus, one trial with mice showed that a treatment with CBD (both oral and Intraperitoneal) managed to block the disease, thus paralyzing its progression. These effects are linked to the immunosuppressive activity and the anti-inflammatory properties of this cannabinoid (Malfait et al., 2000).
In a disease such as cancer, the CBD causes a sedative effect in most cases and inhibits the transmission of nerve signals associated with pain. It has been seen that the CBD reduces the growth of human breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo in mice, and reduces their invasiveness.
How to use CANNABIDIOL
There are different products that contain CBD from certified hemp in the market. CBD Oil is one of the best known products. To use it, it can be ingested or used as a compound in creams and ointments, sprays and teas or hemp infusions. The cannabidiol effect takes 15 to 30 minutes to appear. In the case of sprays, it is very easy to operate. It is a question of placing the dose prescribed by the expert under the tongue (sublingual). In the case of infusions, it is a matter of preparing a conventional infusion, adding some kind of milk or fat like butter to help this cannabinoid to dissolve properly.
Although the CBD is still being investigated in countries around the world, in Spain the products composed of CBD and THC (the latter with a level lower than 0.2%) can be consumed legally and without the need for medical prescription to be able to buy it. On the other hand, in Spain there is only a precedent of medicine composed by cannabidiol called Sativex, it is a pharmacological solution developed by GW Pharma composed of CBD and THC (ratio 1:1), indicated in the treatment of pain and Spasticity in people with multiple sclerosis.
At the time of using cannabidiol, one of the main points is to quantify the milligrams of cannabidiol that the patient should ingest. Depending on the concentration of cannabidiol in the CBD oil, the dose to be administered can be determined.
There are pages that offer a CBD oil calculator based on the analytics they have made to their products, which allows to quantify the CBD in each drop.
The CANNABIDIOL from a chemical optics
The Cannabidiol is chemically expressed how 2-(6-isopropenyl-3-methyl-2-cyclohexen-1-yl) -5-Pentyl-1.3-Benzenediol. It is integrated into the family of terpenofenoles, substances that usually have a carbocíclica structure with 21 carbons and are usually formed by three rings: Cyclohexene
, Tetrahidropirano and benzene. Its molecularform is C21H30O2 and its molecular weight is 314.4636. Its melting point is 66 º C and its boiling point 180 º C. At room temperature it forms a reddish crystallization. It is a molecule insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents and in fats.
The therapeutic effect caused by cannabidiol is due to the solubility of this substance, since it interferes with the nociceptive response of nerve cells, whose cellular structure is highly lipidic. Due to this solubility, the homemade preparations that require this product must have a medium-high fat content, using as a base, for example, milk or oil. For a therapeutic effect it is always preferable to use bases in organic natural oils.
